This Privacy Policy applies to the Surfcast mobile application and surfcastapp.com. It describes how we handle information when you use them. We follow a simple principle: collect only what the app genuinely needs to give you a good forecast.

02What we collect

Information you provide

Surfcast does not require you to create an account. Your favourite spots, recent searches and app settings are stored locally on your device. If you choose to enable an optional sync or contact us for support, we may process the information you send us, such as your email address.

Information collected automatically

• Device & diagnostic data — basic information such as app version, device type and crash logs, used to keep the app stable.
• Usage analytics — aggregated, privacy-respecting metrics about which features are used, so we can improve them.

Where required, this processing happens only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in your device settings.

03Location data

With your permission, Surfcast uses your device location to show surf spots near you and to centre the spots map. You can use the app without granting location access — you'll simply search for spots manually instead.

• Location is used on-device to find nearby spots and is not used to track you across other apps or services.
• You can change or revoke location permission at any time in your device's settings.

04How we use data

We use the limited information described above to:

• Deliver forecasts and show spots relevant to you.
• Maintain, secure and improve the app's reliability and performance.
• Understand which features are valuable so we can build the right things.
• Respond to your support requests.

We do not use your personal data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell it.

05Sharing & third parties

We share data only with service providers that help us run Surfcast — for example, analytics and crash-reporting tools, and the marine-data and mapping providers that power forecasts. These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements, or under their own terms for the data they supply.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the public.

06Storage & retention

Spots, searches and settings remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app. Diagnostic and analytics data is retained only as long as needed for the purposes described, then deleted or anonymised. Information processed by our service providers is retained according to their policies and our agreements with them.

07Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because most data stays on your device, you can exercise much of this control directly:

• Clear saved spots and history within the app.
• Manage location, notification and tracking permissions in your device settings.
• Delete the app to remove locally-stored data from your device.

08Children

Surfcast is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

09Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves or as the law requires. We will revise the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide an in-app notice where appropriate.
